Five Questions to Ask Your Interior Designer

Designing a space can be a daunting experience and choosing an interior designer can be just as stressful. Asking a few simple questions before you hire a designer can ensure that you find the right person to help you create your perfect space.  Norfolk Idea Center has answered the following top 5 questions:

1.  What can I expect during the initial consultation?

We love to sit with clients and listen. Come to the consultation with pictures and ideas about what you want your space to be, or how you want it to feel.  We’ll look at your ideas and talk about your style and vision. We will  consider your existing spaces and then develop a plan for your new space. Or, come with a blank slate and our team will help you find your style and vision!

2.  How do you charge for your services? How do you manage the budget?

We develop a preliminary budget based on the initial scope and review it together to be sure we are on track. If budget adjustments are needed, we decide if they come from material selections or design elements. We then collaborate together to determine the final budget and schedule.

3.  Can you show me examples of projects that are similar to mine in style and budget?
We have many happy customers and are happy to give you references and show you examples of finished design projects in homes throughout Hampton Roads.

4.  What makes you different from the big box stores? Why should I choose a professional interior designer?

Many times the employees at the big box stores are sales people, focused on making the cash register ring.  They likely do not have the education in design and years of experience that you will find at The Norfolk Idea Center. The big box stores may also be limited in the products they can offer you.  We have a wide range of products and have relationships with the top brands in the industry; making it easy to find what you are looking for. At The Norfolk Idea Center, you’ll work with our design team to pick fixtures, tile, floor coverings, cabinets and so much more in a professional, comfortable environment.

5.  Is there a job that is too small for Norfolk Idea Center?

No job is too small for The Norfolk Idea Center.  We can help you design a whole house, a room addition, or simply help you with light fixtures and paint.
