Remodeling a Home: What To Do BEFORE You Move In

By | Builders and Contractors, Design Team, Stress Free Living, Uncategorized | No Comments

So, you’ve found a new home for a great price that you’re ready to remodel. Whether you’ll be moving your family into your new house, renting it out or flipping it, the buying process is undoubtedly tedious and complicated. If you’re moving you or someone else in soon, you’re probably ready to get it over with and start making a return on your investment. However, it you know the house needs updates, why wait?

The best time to start and complete your renovation is while the house is empty. By trying to complete projects over time (even the small ones), you may end up pushing your timeline back even further as life gets in the way – especially as school starts and kids go back to school and the business of fall begins. If you or renters are living in the home, these projects can also cause a huge mess and inconvenience, and even drive energy costs up as builders enter and exit the home or if windows and doors need to be open.

Completing your remodel at one time doesn’t have to be difficult. By working with the Norfolk Idea Center, you already gain access to all of the best products and resources in one place: our showroom. When working with one of our design professionals, homeowners and contractors are able to select flooring, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, lighting, stone and more without the stress of visiting several different stores – saving you so much time in the process!

You won’t have to sacrifice your personal style when choosing from our selection, either. Our designers work with you, listening and learning about your lifestyle and ideas when creating a home design for you. Visit us at 350 W 22nd St #101b in Norfolk to browse our selection, or call (757) 351-4550 to schedule a design consultation.

Take The Scare Out Of Designing Your Home

By | Design Team | No Comments

Designing your dream home can be an exciting but daunting task. We have the privilege of meeting clients everyday who run the gamut when it comes to design expertise. We get excited with the DIYers when they come in with great ideas, and need a little guidance to get started. We love jumping in and taking over the process when a Please-Just-Do-This-For-Me-er walks in, and we’re always happy to sit and talk with an In-Between-er. If you’re looking to make a design change, or start from scratch we want to help!

Here are some tips to get you started, and help break the process down before you visit our showroom:

Make a List
Begin by brainstorming what style of design you’re going for. What are the features you know your new look must have? If you’re designing multiple rooms, think about how the design of each will flow into the next. Most of the time when a client is planning their home design, they can easily list a few design ideas they’ve always dreamed of. Start there!

Visualize Your Design
As you search for ideas, be sure to bookmark any ideas you really love. You can create a dream board from magazine clippings, or use Pinterest. Use whatever method works best for you. You may realize your style evolves as you work room by room to create the big picture, which is why visualization is so important. And, of course, bring those ideas when you meet with our design team in person!

Create a Budget
Knowing what you’re able to spend before embarking on design and redesign can save a lot of unnecessary stress. Come up with a budget for your project, and know we’re here to assist you in accomplishing your desired look without breaking the bank.

Check out our 3D Tour
We work with countless design styles, and we know we can take your dream and turn it into a reality. If you don’t see something you like, don’t worry, we’re a phone call away or you can visit our showroom and spend time with our design team to dream up a design that is uniquely yours.

Or, maybe your flooring needs an upgrade before you can sell – our showroom is full of options to get you started, from floor to ceiling!

Before You Move In
There are a lot of items to think about when the time comes to move into your new home. Love the new house, but not thrilled with some of the design features? We can help with updating your flooring, paint, or fixtures. Best of all, we can go in and get all your desired updates finished before you ever move in the first box!

Bonus – if you get our design team involved early, it may open your eyes to home options you wouldn’t otherwise consider.

We’re here to take the stress off of you as you begin, or seek to finally finish your home projects. Our first suggestion? Come into the showroom. You’ll find we have endless design options available!

If you’re still unsure, we’d like to invite you to take a look at our new 3D tour. Look at what we have to offer from the comfort of your own home! You’ll see that the moving and design process doesn’t have to be scary if you have the professionals on your side. Take a virtual walk through our store, then stop by or give us a call to discuss how we can help!

How to Make Your Home Healthy and Stress Free in 2017

By | Design Team, Home Ideas, Stress Free Living | No Comments

The Holidays are packed in boxes and tucked away in the attic. 2017 has arrived and with it comes the hope of change and a fresh start.  As the New Year approaches we tend to focus on making health changes and setting new fitness goals; but have you thought about how your home can be a source of stress and contribute to your poor health?  The New Year is a great time to make your home the beautiful, stress free space you have always wanted it to be.

Here are some steps you can take to make your home healthy and stress free in the New Year:

  1. Fresh paint: Studies show that cool colors, like blues and neutrals, create a spa like feeling in your home resulting in lower stress levels. To reduce stress, stay away from bright, loud colors.
  2. Vintage-IndustrialNew lighting: Bright, harsh lighting can cause headaches, eyestrain, and create a sense of restlessness.  Choose soft lights on tables or floor lamps rather than bright overhead lights.
  3. Create Balance: Lack of symmetry can cause underlying stress as well, especially if you are one who needs everything in its place. Add a few new items to your already existing decor or rearrange your existing furniture to make your room more balanced. Using a designer from a company like the Norfolk Idea Center can make balancing your home affordable and easy.
  4. Add Live Plants: Bring the outdoors inside. Plants and fresh flowers can contribute to a more relaxing room by increasing the fresh oxygen and removing toxins from the air. See this list of 10 best houseplants to de stress your home 10 Best Houseplants to De-stress your home.
  5. Start from Scratch: A bath redesign or a room addition is a sure way to make a space exactly what you have been dreaming of.  Though it is a bigger commitment in both time and expense, using a company that has experienced designers and all the materials you would need in one spot, like Norfolk Idea Center, can make it a seamless and stress free process; giving you the perfect addition to your home.

Designing a new space can be confusing and overwhelming, but an updated area of your home can be just what you need to start off the New Year. From small changes like fresh paint and new fixtures to room renovations or additions, the Norfolk Idea Center will make the process the easiest New Year’s Resolution you have ever kept.
